Mapping the patient journey
A patient-centered map for better care

Children with Pediatric Growth Hormone Deficiency (PGHD) have a challenging journey—from delayed growth and tricky diagnoses to managing long-term treatment. To understand their experience, we spoke with 62 families across Europe and created the first-ever PGHD patient journey map.
We described six key stages—awareness, diagnosis, treatment start, maintenance, and transition to independence—each filled with unique struggles, from confusion and emotional stress to treatment fatigue. This is an efficient tool to focus on the needs of patients, and to design solutions that fit well.
